Seperti yang disampaikan oleh Menteri Komunikasi dan Informasi, Rudiantara, Penggunaan VPN tidak disarankan untuk membuka blokir WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter dan Facebook. Karena bisa menimpulkan beberapa efek negatif yang akan hadir, seperti pencurian data pribadi.
Selain itu, VPN juga bisa digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data kita secara umum. Setelah itu, ada kemungkinan besar virus dan malmawe bisa masuk ke perangkat kita. maka dari itulah, kominfo tidak merekomendasikan penggunaan VPN tersebut untuk mengakses data pribadi.
Rudiantara lebih lanjut menyampaikan bahwa pemblokiran ini dilakukan tidak secara luas karena hanya terbatas pada pengiriman foto dan video.
